Tragedy struck Evanston Thursday evening as Caroline Holmes, 31, was found unresponsive in her apartment after attempting to put a foam insert back into her sports bra, law enforcement said.

Her housemate Emma Davis claimed that she was supposed to meet Caroline and their friends for dinner. “Caroline told me over text that she just had to finish folding one of her bras—forty minutes, tops, she said. But then forty minutes turned into an hour, and an hour turned into three,” Davis said through tears.

The forensic report, newly available, paints a harrowing picture of the night. The offending garment was found covered in tear stains and vicious bite marks. Although the cause of death remains uncertain, law enforcement believes that Holmes turned on the washing machine in a cold fury and threw herself inside.

“This world just wasn’t made for people like me,” reads the poignant note found crumpled beside her waterlogged corpse. “I intend to seek my fortune elsewhere.”

Friends and family have created a GoFundMe in Caroline’s name. All proceeds will go towards funeral costs and the #FreeTheNipple movement.
